Match.com: Meet Lara – The Bot to Help People Fall in Love

The first ever “dating bot” has been launched on Facebook. The AI will try to help singles find love via Facebook messenger in the UK.

The endeavor Match.com has launched in the UK is called Lara, and will create a user’s dating profile without them actually having to leave Facebook.

According to Match.com, Lara interacts with users in a “seamless” manner by using natural language processing techniques and will soon be available in all of Europe. She is said to be a virtual dating assistant that can help subscribers hone their account to be more appealing to potential matches.

Lara began its Work in France last year, able to analyze up to 50 categories of criteria including astrological signs, hobbies and much more, the bot is able to make romantic suggestions based on all the hard data social media provides her with.

As soon as a profile has been completed users are asked more in-depth questions, such as what they imagine their first date to be, or what else they might be looking for in a potential date. Analyzing this data, information on different candidates and links through to their profiles will be provided in the messenger conversation chain.

“with messenger being used by over one billion people worldwide and now a big part of people’s everyday lives, developing the first dating bot has been a priority for us to make finding a date easier for singles wherever they are,” said Abbie Oguntade, vice president for Match’s Northern European Hub.

Facebook has made a series of changes and updates to their service, encouraging users to interact with bots through clickable menus instead of using text speech.
